All ready for church.

My sister and her family came to visit and met Sophia for the first time. This is my niece Katelynn holding her.

A few weeks ago, we went to Worland to visit Rich's aunt and uncle. It was a really fun time (as always)! I'm sad that my camera battery died before I was able to take a picture with the 4 babies that were there, but this is the one I got. This is Hailey, Sophia, and Brooklyn. Lucy was also there, and sadly I don't have a picture with her. :(

We blessed Sophia on July 31st. This picture was taken on the day she was blessed. This is my Grandpa Yates, my mom, Sophie and me. I was so happy my grandpa happened to be in town from Los Angeles that weekend. I love that guy!

Sophia is getting so curious! She loves looking around and has such a strong little neck! She holds her head up as high as she can, and lifts her feet up too, and then she just tips over onto her back. It always seems to surprise her that she rolled over so I don't think she does it on purpose.

Rich's parents came home for a few weeks from their mission in Russia due to some health issues his dad had. It was so great to see them! We didn't think they'd get to see Sophia until she was a few years old. His dad is fine, he just needs to be on blood thinners from now on and now they are back in Russia.

Sleeping

Sophia finally slept through the night and in her own bed!!! I cannot express how excited I am about this! I kept waking up that first night, thinking, "I hope she's OK!" so i still didn't sleep too well, but hey, it's a start! This came at just the right time too, because I was getting a little frustrated. She would only sleep when I held her or when she was right next to me in bed. This is a milestone! She's gone 3 nights in a row so far... fingers crossed that it lasts!



She was so happy in the morning. I could tell she was pleased with herself. :)

Bath Time

This was Sophia's first bath. When I put her in the water, her facial expressions were the best... her eyes got all wide and she looked a little frantic, but she didn't cry. She gets the same look every time she baths now... even though she has had plenty of them!

My favorite is when I get her out of the water and wrap her up in a big towel. She's just so dang cute!

Expressions

Sophia has so many different facial expressions, but this one is my favorite... I call it her Zoolander look. She held this expression for so long I was able to go grab my camera and take several pictures before she stopped. It gets a good chuckle out of me every time!

Sophia Jo Sorenson

She's here! Finally. :) She was born on July 1st at 10:16. She weighed 8lbs 5oz and was 21.5 inches long. She was much bigger than I expected, but I should have known because I was almost 9 pounds and Rich was 11 pounds when he was born! Anyway, I was in labor for a little over 10 hours.

She was very alert when she was born. She had her eyes open and was looking around at everything. It was such a special time! The feeling of responsibility I had when they handed her to me was incredible and scary, but mostly really special.


Rich was there holding my hand through the whole event. My mom was there too, and was a huge help. I'm sad we didn't get any pictures with her. :(


I don't think I've ever been so happy to be finished with something in my life! It was exhausting and my doctor told me "now you know why they call it labor"! Boy, is that true!


After Sophia was born, I just wanted to have everyone come and see her! We were really happy to have family and friends come visit. I only got a few pictures, but this is Rich's brother, Pete, holding her.

When we took her home, the real adventure started. She has so many funny facial expressions. I spend a lot of time just watching her and laughing at the little things she does.

This is what our nights consist of now. We just stare at her. :)

She's been in our lives for a little over 2 weeks but it feels like much longer! She had her 2 week appointment Friday and she's now in the 69% for height, 66% for weight, and 75% for head circumference.

Before and After

When Rich and I bought this house, there was a room in the basement that used to terrify me. I thought that this is the type of room someone could use as a torture chamber, or the kind of room you find an 18 year old whose parents have locked them in, never allowing them to leave or see the light of day until one day they are discovered by some nosy journalist/neighbor. YIKES! Anyway, we used it to store misc. items... but when we found out we were adding a little person into our lives, we realized that we needed to do a little remodeling so we can have room for our little lady. We plan on putting the baby upstairs in our spare bedroom and make the "rock room" our guest bedroom. Rich began working on it several months ago and this is what it looked like then.

Yikes!! Doesn't it give you the creeps?!? This is what it looks like today!

Oh, my! Rich sure made some improvements! He did everything himself (except laying the carpet). He framed the room, exposed the original beams in the ceiling, drywalled it, painted it, cut out all the wood pieces for the counter tops, and shelves. He built the cupboards and shutters for the window. He did the electric wiring and gave us some good lighting and electricity. Here are a few more pictures...



It isn't creepy at all anymore! I am SO proud of him for doing such a great job on the room. He put so many details into it that I never would have thought of. It far exceeds my expectations. I sure love that guy and appreciate what a hard worker he is!!

Anniversary

Last weekend, Rich and I celebrated our first Anniversary. I cannot believe how fast this year has gone! To celebrate, Rich had surprised me with a bunch of fun things.

First, he brought home some beautiful flowers.


On Saturday we went to our reception site, This is the Place Heritage Park. We were able to ride the train for the first time. We rented the train to take people around during our reception, but we didn't have time to ride it. It was a good time.

The train dropped us off at the Huntsman Hotel, where we ate some of the nastiest hot dogs ever.

And this is the chapel where his dad performed our ring ceremony... good memories, for sure!


Oh, I love spring! We saw this little family of geese. So cute!


Then Rich surprised me by taking me to the new Jane Eyre movie I've been wanting to see. So good!

Then we drove to Park City, where we stayed in a shmancy hotel called the Stein Eriksen Lodge. We were waited on hand and foot.


This was our view from our hotel room... It was super pretty, even though it was snowy.


Our hotel room had a living room with a fireplace and a balcony with a hot tub... so nice!


For dinner, we just had to go downstairs to the restaurant, where we had a 3 course meal. It's been awhile since I've had such delicious food. Somehow the staff found out we were celebrating our anniversary and for dessert, they made this pretty little chocolate plate for us.

This year has been so much fun, and I can't wait to see what this next year has in store!
